A son of super-sire Danehill, Arena displayed all of the precocity and natural brillance that the breed is so famous for. In his five 2YO starts, four were in stake races. He ran third to the eventual Golden Slipper winner Prowl in the Skyline S-GR3 and third again in the Pago Pago S-GR2. He ran fifth in the AJC Sires' Produce S-GR1 and forth in the AJC Champagne S-GR1.

His 2YO performances were full of merit, and stamped ARENA as a horse with unlimited potential. That potential was confirmed most emphatically by the horse's outstanding record at Group One level as a 3YO, and again as a 4YO. Being a multiple Group 1 winning son of Danehill, out of a Group 1 classic winning Blushing Groom line mare, makes ARENA one of the most exciting, and best, credentialed, horses ever to embark on a stud career in this country.

It was as a 3YO that ARENA confirmed what a high class racehorse he was. He started in 15 races, 14 of which were stakes races. He contested no less than 8 Group 1 races, winning the VRC Derby-GR1 and the STC Canterbury Guineas-GR1 and was placed in the AJC Derby-GR1, Spring Champion Stakes-GR1, Rosehill Guineas-GR1 and the Mercedes Classic-GR1. As a 3YO, ARENA also won the Hobartville Stakes, Gloaming Stakes and Hill Stakes all at Group 2 level. He was stakes-placed in the Royal Sovereign S-GR2 and Norman Robinson S-GR3.

Throughout his 3YO career, ARENA competed against such outstanding performers as Sky Heights, Tie The Knot, Lawyer, Intergaze, Dracula and Dignity Dancer. In winning Group class races from 1400 metres to 2500 metres, he demonstrated what a versatile racehorse he was. As a 4YO, ARENA continued to race at the highest level. All of his 12 starts were in stakes races, 7 at Group 1 level. With his second placings in the Australian Cup-GR1, Ranvet Stakes-GR1 and Mercedes Classic-GR1, ARENA took his prizemoney earnings to over $2.25 million.
