Coolmore Result has Lomar Park Cheering

The victory of the ultra-consistent three-year old filly Regal Cheer in the $600,000 Group 1 Coolmore Classic at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday was a milestone in the career of Lomar Park Stud’s Arena.
The son of Danehill was credited with his first Group 1 winner when the diminutive, Joseph Pride-trained, filly held of the challenges of Queensland raider Star Shiraz (Sequalo) and 10000 Guineas (G1) heroine Mnemosyne (Encosta de Lago). Former Woodlands star Arena is the lone resident stallion on the property situated at Werombi on the outskirts of Sydney.

At the heat sapping 2004 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, part owner Gordon Stack admitted he was outbid on several lots before venturing on the fourth day to the Lomar Park draft to inspect a filly from the second crop of VRC Derby winner Arena out of the STC Magic Night Stakes (G2) winner and Golden Slipper Stakes (G1) third Regal Chamber (Archregent). When his bid of $85,000 went unanswered, Stack took home a filly whose family continues to feature prominently in stakes races around the nation.
Not always blessed with best luck in her races, Regal Cheer prepped for the Coolmore by lowering the colours of Mnemosyne in the Surround Stakes (G2) on March 6. Her record stands at six wins, two seconds, and two thirds from 15 starts for earnings of over $710,000.

Regal Cheers pedigree is pure Lomar Park. Racing in the well-known colours of the stud’s owner Fred Peisah, her dam Regal Chamber was is by former resident stallion Archregent out of a mare by another Lomar Park stallion Adirondack Holme out of a mare by the stud’s foundation stallion Le Cordonnier. She also descends from the Lomar Park’s blue hen Social Smile.
Archregent (Vice Regent) is enjoying a golden run as a broodmare sire. His daughter Shady Stream is responsible for Australia’s best sprinter, recent Newmarket Handicap (G1) hero, Takeover Target.
Foundation mare Social Smile was an imported daughter of the Golden Cloud stallion Ennis out of Cotytto whose dam Miss Radiant was a full sister to Lyndhurst Stud prolific Stardust stallion Smokey Eyes
At stud Social Smile produced 11 foals, 9 raced and all were winners. Her second foal was the Sydney winner Sea Holy (Fair’s Fair), dam of the outstanding sprinter Razor Sharp (Steel Pulse), twice winner of the VRC Newmarket Hcp (G1) and three-times winner of the AJC Challenge Stakes (G2), and his full brother Steele Blade winner of the 1981 Challenge Stakes and runner-up to Imposing in the AJC Epsom Hcp (G1).

Social Smile’s third foal La Femme (Le Cordonnier) produced the 1983 Missile Stakes (G3) winner Young Blood (Bogan Road). She is also the dam of La Maison (Adirondack Holme), the dam of Regal Chamber and her half sister Queen’s Suite (Marauding) the dam of the $200,000 sales topping Galileo filly at the 2006 Classic sale.

Social Smile’s 1973 foal Imperious (Le Cordonnier) produced Robian Steel, the late finishing son of Steel Pulse who captured the 1989 Group 1 QTC Stradbroke Hcp for Bart Cummings.
A year after foaling Imperious, Social Smile produced her Melbourne winning sister Social Heir. When mated to the Arlington Million winner Tolomeo, Social Heir produced the VRC Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club (G3) and NJC Cameron Hcp (LR) winner Social Rule. Social Heir is also the third dam of the mighty midget Follow The Till (General Nediym), recent winner of the $350,000 Inglis Premier.

In 1976 Social Heir foaled the stakes-placed Le Cordonnier filly Reason To Smile, the dam of the quality Archregent filly Moment’s Pleasure. The joint third top weighted filly on the 1993/94 2yo Classification, Moments Pleasure won the STC Reisling Slipper trial (G2), NJC Coca Cola Classic (G3) and was runner-up in the Group 1 STC Winfield Classic.
The 1979 foal of Social Smile, La Debutante (Le Cordonnier), is the grandam of the dual Group 3 winning South Australian-trained colt Border Time.

The final foal of Social Smile, Ever Elegant (Steel Pulse), proved to be her most influential. She is the dam of the group-winning brothers Elegancy (Angus Brut Classic (G2)), Mister Elegant (Victoria Hcp (G3)) and the remarkable dual Group 1 winner and $2 million earner Super Elegant, all sons of Lomar Park’s recently deceased Danzig stallion Mister C.

Leading Japanese trainer Hideyuki Moro purchased Regal Chamber's Giant's Causeway colt for $140,000 at the 2005 Easter Yearling Sale. She has a yearling full brother to Regal Cheer, a colt foal by Rock Of Gibraltar and was served by that stallion again last spring.
