The AJC and STC congratulate filly Regal Cheer who walks away from the
Sydney Autumn Carnival crowned this year’s ''Queen Of The Autumn''
Series rewarded for her sensational performances over the past three
months.
Fillies and mares who competed throughout the 2006 Sydney Autumn
Racing Carnival had the opportunity to earn points during a series of
specified black type races, with the eventual winner being crowned
“Queen Of The Autumn”.
Regal Cheer performed strongly during the Autumn Carnival winning the
$600,000 Group 1, Coolmore Classic at Rosehill Gardens and the
$130,000 Group 2, Surround Stakes at Warwick Farm. She followed up on
this impressive start, being placed in a number of races including
Group 1 Queen of the Turf Stakes.
The Queen of the Autumn Series was developed in 2003 and is held
jointly by the Australian Jockey Club and the Sydney Turf Club. It
consists of 18 Group and listed races for fillies and/or mares run
during the Autumn Carnival between 18 February and 22 April. Previous
winners of this annual award include Shower of Roses (2003) Shamekha
(2004) and Danni Martine (2005).
“I am very pleased,” said Regal Cheer’s trainer Joseph Pride.
“I love to race a horse that has such consistency and agility. I look
forward to seeing how she will perform this spring” he said.
Sold as a yearling at the 2004 Magic Millions Yearling Sale for
$85,000, and now with a total win prize of over $800,000, Regal
Cheer’s estimated worth is in excess of $500,000.
Runners up for the prize are Mnemosyne at 35 points and Serenade Rose
closely following third with 32 points.
