Impatient Star Set For Epsom Start

Owner Fred Peisah believes Impatient Star has the makings of Group One winner and all going well, the gelding will be aimed at the Epsom Handicap in October.

Impatient Star, who is trained by Bill Prain, has won three of his 11 starts this campaign which began in February and Peisah sees no reason why he can't keep going.

"We will keep him up for the better races, he shows no signs of needing a spell," Peisah said.

"Bill has a great set-up at Warwick Farm and the horse will do nothing for the next ten days and then run again in a couple of weeks.

"I don't think a race like the Epsom is beyond him. He is a horse who needs the pace on and it is always on in a race like that."

Impatient Star has won his past two starts over the Randwick 1600 metres on heavy tracks including Saturday's class six success.

His sire Arena stands at Peisah's Lomar Park Stud and produced his first Group One winner in Regal Cheer who claimed the Coolmore Classic during the autumn.

Arena won the 1998 Victoria Derby (2500m) and 1999 Canterbury Guineas (1800m) and Prain and Peisah experimented with him over longer trips.

"Billy thinks he will get 2000 metres but I think he is better over 1600," Peisah said.

"We experimented with him over the longer distances but he just failed to run them out."

Impatient Star's best performance over longer than 1600 metres was his 1-3/4 length second to subsequent Queensland Derby runner-up Cape Breton over 1800m at Rosehill on May 20.

Peisah said Impatient Star had inherited his father's toughness.

"Arena has really stamped him," he said.

The association between Peisah and the popular Prain has been a long and successful one but the two have not yet snared a Group One victory together.

Moment's Pleasure looked to have the 1995 Coolmore in her keeping before being nabbed by Flitter while Regal Chamber was third to Guineas in the 1997 Golden Slipper.
