Fred Peisah,
breeder of good horses for forty years on his Lomar Park Stud in the
historic Camden region on the southwestern perimeter of Sydney, has
had a joyful June as far as input into racing results is concerned.
In the main they
were his contribution to the breeding of Takeover Target, the rags to
riches Australian galloper who deserved to push even the sockeroos
aside in the sporting pages of the newspapers for his deeds at Royal
Ascot, and more good performances from the progeny of Lomar Park's
resident Danehill sire Arena.
Lomar Park gets
into the Takeover Target picture as the breeding ground of his dam
Shady Stream, a daughter of one of the half dozen good sires used at
this stud, Archregent. Her dam Merry Shade, a Spectacular Spy stakes
winner, was bred by the late Dan Buffier of the Wingarra Stud, Bylong
using Parasol, a Sostenuto mare who did not win but who produced nine
winners. She was owned for a time by Tiger Holland, the trainer and
part owner with Betty Lane of Athelnoth, a good class sprinter who was
successful at Randwick on Saturday.
Fred Peisah's
Lomar Park also had an input into the breeding of new sprint star
Natural Destiny, the winner on Saturday at Eagle Farm of the W.J.
Healy Stakes. Like Takeover Target, he is from a mare by Archregent.
Also visiting the
winner's stall on Saturday was the second crop Arena three-year-old
Impatient Star, a Lomar Park bred gelding by their resident Danehill
sire Arena. In landing the big end of the prize money in the1600m
event that wound up Saturday's Randwick program, Impatient Star was
recording his fourth Sydney win and suggesting he could be an Epsom
hope in the spring.
His Randwick
victory made Impatient Star the second Sydney winner in a week for
Arena as his two-year-old daughter Rena's Lady broke through at
Warwick Farm at the mid week meeting. In the Gary Portelli stables,
she romped to a 6.5 lengths win.
The successes of
Impatient Star and Rena's Lady contributed to a treble of Arena
metropolitan winners in less than a fortnight as another of his
three-year-olds, the Woodlands Stud bred and raced filly Creole, won a
1110m event at Doomben on June 14, scoring by 1.25 lengths and in
class record time. She is from a Yeats mare bred by Woodlands but
disposed of after she produced the foal who was to become Creole.
Arena has now had
40 winners of 60 races of $1.7 million for 2005-06 with the top
performer being the Lomar Park bred Regal Cheer. Also a daughter of an
Archregent mare, Regal Cheer has won seven races, including the STC
Coolmore Classic-Gr.1 and AJC Surround Stakes-Gr.2, and landed second
money in the STC Queen of the Turf Stakes-Gr.1 and AJC Light Fingers
Stakes-Gr.2.
A brilliant middle
distance performer whose six wins included the Victoria Derby,
Canterbury Guineas, Hobartville Stakes, Hill Stakes and Gloaming
Stakes, Arena is a Danehill sire whose progeny could keep on doing
well as five and six-year-olds and who can be expected to supply good
performers at all distances.
