Arena Becoming as Even Bigger Attraction

Arena, the Danehill Victoria Derby and Canterbury Guineas winner located at Fred Peisah's consistently successful Lomar Park Stud at Werombi near Sydney, finished the 2005-06 racing year impressively, supplying a double at the meeting at Randwick on July 26, a major winner at Singapore on Friday and the winner of the event which kicked off the program at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

The latter winner is his second crop three-year-old gelded son Impatient Star and he is proving a most consistent vehicle for his trainer Billy Prain, Warwick Farm. Impatient Star has raced seven times in Sydney since May1 for three wins, a second, two thirds and two fourths. Earlier efforts included a third in the STC Heritage Stakes-LR and a strong finishing 2.1 lengths fifth of 13 in the STC Tulloch Stakes-Gr.2.

Arena's double at Randwick was provided by Allaboutus, a two lengths winner of the juvenile event, and Rocarena, a first crop four year-old who had earlier won over1600 metres on the same course. Allaboutus, a product of a mare by Golden Slipper winner Marauding, had also been successful at Randwick on July 11.

Arena had two two-year-old winners last week with the other being the runner successful in Singapore, the Lomar Park bred Vegas Star. Sold for only $11,000 at a Sydney yearling sale, Vegas Star showed up as one of the best of their youngsters by winning the Singapore Juvenile Championship on Friday.

Another Arena bred by Lomar Park, Regal Cheer, suggested she is to be a force as a four-year-old in spring racing with an impressive trial win at Randwick on Monday. A typical tough Lomar Park product, she has won six races including the STC Coolmore Classic-Gr.1 and AJC Surround Stakes-Gr.2.

Yet another good performer for this son of Danehill during last month was Bella Arena, a convincing winner at Randwick on July 8 and at Rosehill Gardens on July 22. They have been the only starts after six months spell for this first crop Arena product trained for her breeders D.K. and Mrs K. Rex by Ken Callaughan at Goulburn.

The July successes pushed Arena's statistics for the year to 44 winners of 73 races and over $2million. All told to date he has had 56 individual winners with the others including Public Opinion (won Flemington and Doomben; third AJC Up and Coming Stakes-Gr.2, NSW Tattersall's Ming Dynasty Quality-Gr.3), Danish Sea (won Pinjarra and second WATC Champion Fillies' Stakes-Gr.3), Lancaster Park (five wins including three in Sydbey; third STC N.E. Manion Cup-LR), Our Highlander (four Sydney wins including AJC Winter Challenge Final), Pleasure Ground (won Sydney; second Illawarra K.F. Nolan Classic-LR), Wrong Call (won Sydney at two), Esceegee (won Melbourne), Powerfully (Perth), Creole (Brisbane), Big Jake (Brisbane), Circus Maximus (Brisbane) and Pure Sugar (another Sydney winner).

The achievement of the progeny of Arena, a sire available this year at $13,750, continues the tradition of Lomar Park for good sires. His predecessors have included the importations Mister C, Archregent, Steel Pulse and Le Cordonnier.
