Sydney apprentice Tim
Clark opened the Sydney Turf Club’s Hobartville Stakes Day at Rosehill
on Saturday with a top ride showing his ability and why already he has
12 wins in the city.
Riding the Bill Prain
trained Arena filly My Lady’s Chamber in the $60,000, Special K
Handicap (1200m) Clark settled her well behind the leader Spiel (NZ)
and allowed the filly to run along without bustling her.
My Lady’s Chamber had been difficult to load into the barriers and
Clark sensibly allowed her time in the race, even though they hit the
running rail coming off the first straight.
Into the straight
Spiel was under pressure and the field fanned across the track. My
Lady’s Chamber were slightly flat footed when they sprinted past the
300m mark, but a gap opened outside the struggling Spiel and Clark
asked his filly for the run.

My Lady’s Chamber
responded strongly and they came through to run away to a 1 1/4L
victory. Crown Addiction (Dangerous) was second and Golden Thunderbird
(Umatilla) third, the margin a short neck.
The time was slow
1.11.36, the final 600m in 34.97.
“She is entered for
the Golden Slipper and her aunt (Regal Chamber) ran in the Slipper,”
said Fred Peisah, owner of Lomar Park Stud who stands the sire Arena (Danehill).
Regal Chamber won the
Group II Magic Night Stakes (1200m) held the week before the Golden
Slipper, and then led in the 1997 Slipper before being overrun for
third.

Prain said it was
unusual for the filly to be troublesome to load into the barriers, but
Clark said that notwithstanding that she was first out and settled
well.
“She has always shown
me more than the average two-year-old,” said Prain.
My Lady’s Chamber is
out of the Marauding mare Queen’s Suit giving the filly further AAMI
Golden Slipper credentials with Marauding winning the Slipper in 1987.
This was her third race after placing second in each of the previous
two, and she has now earned stakes of $62,000, plus a BOBS bonus of
$20,000. She is owned by the Lomar Park Syndicate (Manager CL Krogh),
CL Krogh and Mr and Mrs JR Park.
