Impatient Star Aims For AJC Derby

Lomar Park Stud proprietor Fred Peisah celebrated Arena's first Group One winner when Regal Cheer won Saturday's Coolmore Classic and is looking to Impatient Star to continue the trend.

The three-year-old will be aimed at the AJC Australian Derby (2400m) on April 15 following his win in the Lindbergh Hcp (1550m) at Randwick.

Peisah struck a deal with Woodlands Stud to stand 1998 Victoria Derby winner Arena at Lomar Park with Bob Ingham retaining a shareholding in the stallion.

"It was a tremendous thrill when Regal Cheer won," Peisah said.

"We had a couple of others we hoped would be Group One winners, Wrong Call and Our Highlander.

"And now we hope this bloke could be the next. He will run in the Tulloch Stakes and then hopefully the Derby."

Apprentice Tim Clark's three-kilo claim brought Impatient Star into the race with 53kg and the gelding dashed clear in the straight after getting a comfortable run to the turn tucked in behind the speed.

He went to the line 2-1/4 lengths clear of Rednrich with Flora Danica making some ground late to finish the same margin away third.

"I knew he would win today," trainer Bill Prain said.

"I backed him at 100-1 at Warwick Farm and he was unlucky and then I backed him at 20-1 at Canberra and he was unlucky.

"At 4-1 today, of course he was going to win."

The Group Two Tulloch Stakes (2000m) is run at Rosehill on April 8 a week before the $2 million Derby at Randwick.

Meanwhile, Prain and Peisah will assess the weekend's fields before making a decision on whether to press on towards the Golden Slipper with My Lady's Chamber who is also by Arena.

The filly is entered for both the Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday and the T L Baillieu (1400m) at Warwick Farm on Sunday.

My Lady's Chamber has won $82,000 with one win and two placings from her four starts, enough to ensure a start in the $3 million Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on April 8 but Peisah is also looking towards the longer Sires' Produce (1400m) and Champagne Stakes (1600m) during the four-day Randwick Easter carnival.
