Impatient Star carries on Arena’s winning streak

The Bill Prain-trained Impatient Star showed the benefit of a rise in distance with a comprehensive win today on the Kensington track at Randwick in the Lindebergh Handicap (1550m).
Impatient Star is by Arena the sire of Saturday’s G1 Coolmore Classic winner Regal Cheer and the brown gelding is owned and raced by the Lomar Park Stud Syndicate where Arena stands.
Impatient Star whose form read well coming into today’s race travelled quietly in the back half of the field but when apprentice Clark pushed the accelerator at the top of the straight he charged between runners and set out after Rednrich who had established a sizable break but once Impatient Star saw clear galloping room he quickly ran to the leader and surged away for an emphatic win.
”He’s a good honest little horse this bloke,” Prain said.
”He hasn’t been racing with much luck and this was a class drop on his last few runs.
”He’ll get 2000 metres and maybe even further and that is when we’ll see the best of him.
”I think I’ll give him a go now at the Tulloch Stakes [2000m] on Golden Slipper day and if runs well in that we’ll probably push on to the Derby.”
Impatient Star 56kg ($5 SP) (T.Clark a3) defeated Rednrich 54.5kg ($7 SP) (H.Bowman) by two and a quarter lengths with Flora Danica 57.5kg ($3.80 SP) (W.Pearson a2) another two and a quarter lengths away in third.
The time for the race was 1.32.40 (hand timed) with the last 600m run in 36.37.
